Wedding & Engagement Photography at La Mamounia
I’ve shot two sessions at La Mamounia — a proposal and a pre-wedding session. Here’s what the hotel’s gardens and patio are actually like to work with.
Why La Mamounia
The gardens are the real asset here — mature and dense, with different textures depending on where you are: orange blossom and fountains near the restaurant, bougainvillea elsewhere. The black-and-white patio adds a completely different, more graphic backdrop nearby.
Inside, it’s carved cedar ceilings, horseshoe arches, and hand-laid zellige — a completely different register from the gardens, more ornate, better suited to formal portraits than the loose, natural feel outside.
What It’s Like to Photograph Here
Alison and Michael’s session was built around golden hour — the warm light in the gardens as the sun dropped was a big part of what made that session work. For Brian and Deborah’s proposal, the gardens near the restaurant gave enough cover that Deborah didn’t see it coming.
That light comes through the trees rather than falling flat, which is why I plan the timeline around it deliberately — timing the walk from ceremony to reception to land inside that fifteen- to twenty-minute window. Indoors, I frame wide enough to let the architecture read, then move in close for the moments that matter.
Real Sessions at La Mamounia
Brian & Deborah — A Proposal
Brian proposed to Deborah in the gardens near the restaurant, in a spot set up in advance with red flowers. Afterward, La Mamounia moved them to the black-and-white patio for a private dinner, and I stayed to document that too — the light changes once candles replace daylight.

Alison and Michael’s session started at La Mamounia at golden hour, then continued out to Taghazout’s coastline. The contrast between the hotel’s gardens and the open Atlantic gave them a more varied set than staying in one location.

Is La Mamounia only for very large weddings?
No. It hosts weddings across a wide range of sizes, from intimate ceremonies for close family to full-scale celebrations. What stays constant is the level of service and the setting.

Both sessions here were arranged directly by the couple through the hotel — I don’t manage venue access.
