Ankit & Rachel | A Surprise Proposal at The Oberoi Marrakech

Ankit planned a surprise proposal to Rachel at The Oberoi Marrakech. Their story began at a friend’s birthday party and continued with a first date in Washington, DC. Five years later, a trip to Morocco brought them to this courtyard, with a ring waiting out of sight.

As their proposal photographer in Marrakech, I photographed the afternoon from the first portraits to the moment Ankit went down on one knee. The gardens, carved doors and long water channels gave us space to walk and enjoy the rest of the session together.

Portraits in the courtyard

The afternoon began beside the reflecting pool and carved wooden doors. Ankit and Rachel stood together in the shade of the arches, then moved towards the bougainvillea for a few closer portraits.

A walk through the gardens

Along the flower-lined paths, the portraits became more playful: a turn, a kiss and a pause on a wooden bench. Under the olive trees, low sunlight stretched their shadows across the path.

The surprise proposal

Beneath the courtyard arch, Ankit knelt and opened the ring box. Rachel covered her mouth with both hands before he slipped the ring onto her finger. The photographs move from that first reaction to their laughter, joined hands and quiet embraces after the yes.

After the yes

There was still time to run across the lawn, settle into a hammock and make a few portraits on the terraces. The evening light softened around them as they sat back to back, before a final walk through the hotel’s arches.
